NTP in Active Directory

Time, we geeks can never get enough of it. Active Directory, it seems, also needs time. Without it, the Kerberos authentication protocol won't work, and your users won't be able to log in. I've had more than my fill of time related problems with Active Directory. No sooner are you happy that all your clients are getting their time from the forest PDC emulator, than one of them pipes up "But it's two minutes slow and whenever I put it right on my desktop the server changes it back again!". Now my personal preference is to to start my reply sentence with the word "tough", but again, I'm a geek, and I also want the time to be perfect to the nearest second (or closer if possible). Aside from checking the time on the server every day against the speaking clock, and changing it when it's out, you'd think you couldn't do it. Well I'm pleased to report (pleased for me anyway...) that you can! There are a couple of detailed articles here and here which explain exactly what to do to synchronise your forest with an atomic clock. When you need to find a time server on the internet, look no further than the home of the Network Time Protocol. They have all the info you might need, and links to lists of Stratum 2 (the ones you should use, please read the rules of engagement before just pointing at servers) time servers and other goodies...
